Raw potatoes… yum!

HERE is an article suggesting that buying local food isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

this guy says that we are kidding ourselves if we think that by eating food grown/produced locally we are saving the planet. He points the the fact that there are big gaps in our knowledge.

potatoes
True, there are. That’s why we should always find out about these sorts of issues, and continually question what we do, and adapt if necessary, etc. But as a general rule, I’d rather eat apples (and food in general) grown in my locality, rather than ones shipped/flown from New Zealand. You don’t have to be too clever to realise that it makes more sense, costs ‘the world’ less to do this, and is better for the environment. What is important is that I trust the apple-grower (do they use harsh chemicals? Do they use energy wastefully or unwisely? etc). That’s not always possible, but the more local you go, the easier it is, imo!

Anyway, it’s worth a read.

But please DO continue to cook your potatoes, as I guess raw ones might kill you.
I take his point that we can all do with thinking about what energy we use whilst cooking. I like to bring pasta to the boil, then turn the heat off, and let it ‘cook’ on its own. It takes a bit longer, but saves energy. The same can be done with hard boiled eggs, and some veg. It’s also worth using the same glass throughout the day for drinks (of water) to save on water (washing up)!

I have now reached the tender age of 60 (you get there at a fast rate once you reach 30) I have always eaten raw potatoes, straight from the ground as I used to spend my summer holidays with an aunt who picked them in the season as a way to earn money. It is with shock/horror that I read that they can kill you as my four sons plus now the grandchildren have always been given a raw peeled potatoe and enjoyed it – what property in a potatoe kills you or maybe my family are exempt…
I await a reply with interest. Carole

    oh.
    whoops!
my humble appologies. I just assumed that they were bad for you.
I can’t say i’m tempted, but each to his own!
    thx 4 correcting me!

i”ve eaten raw potatoes since i was a child and now at 36 still eat loads my children eat the odd one and the worst thing i was told was we would all get worms which i now have learned is an old wives tale cant beat the good old spud.

  4. Annie Says:

    i am feeling left out…!
i will have to give this raw potato thing a try sometime… we’ve just harvested the 1st of this year’s crop… bring it on!
(am i allowed to dip it in mayo?!)

  5. David Says:

Raw potatoes are harmless, though any green parts should be cut off first, since the plant itself is toxic. You get fewer calories out of raw potatoes, since the cellulose (normally broken up by cooking) keeps the starches locked up and undigestable. Chew well if that concerns you.

  6. Mike Says:

My favorite food in the world is a peeled raw potato with some salt. Did you know that if your blindfold someone and plug their nose they can not tell the difference between a peeled raw potato or a peeled raw apple! I have eaten thousand of raw potato’s, and I’m healthy and fit. (the salt might not be good for me, but it makes it sooo tasty!!) I eat them just like an apple. I would just like to comment on the people saying that you get less calories out of raw potatoes, I believe this to be not only untrue, but quite the opposite (for boiled potatoes) From my research cooking does break down the cellulose in the cell wall, but even uncooked that cell wall does not “lock in” the starches when eaten. Boiling does lessen the calories as you lose alot of starch into the water, but eating an uncooked raw potato, you consume all the starch. Even with the cell wall, which is not digestable (ie. fiber) the cell wall is still broken, thus releasing the contents of the cell (ie. starches) These starches are in longer more complex chains, and thus require more steps to break down into simple sugars. So the net energy surplus might be less for a raw potato, but the net energy intake is more, it just takes more energy for the body to use those long starches as compared to “pre-broken, ie. boiled” starches. So eat a raw potato sandwich and live long!!!

  7. Annie Says:

    mike, you astound me!
i still haven’t given it a try, but somehow i feel it will be my turn in due course…!

  8. Gloria Says:

    Hello Annie,
I am 71 and have eaten raw potatoes all my life. They are better if not old. Never eat the sprouts off an old potato, that can harm you. And if you do eat raw potatoes, you will NEVER HAVE WORMS. LOL Very good with salt on too.

  9. Annie Says:

    wow – that’s great gloria!
i like the bit about not getting worms… my son has just had them… nice!

So my mom was fussing at me because I was eating a raw potatoe. She told me that they weren’t good for me and that I would become very sick if i kept eating them. So, to prove her wrong, I googled this in online! ..Thanks guys! Now I can eat all the raw potatoes I want to! : D

I love raw potato’s peeled and soaked in cold water in the fridge, they are so watery and juicy, not to mention crunchy. I love the taste in my mouth especially after chewing it for a minute. I go through a 10lb bag a week. I crave raw potato’s. I peel and eat the potato daily. I like all kinds. Idaho. and I like the thin yellow skin potato as well. I just can’t get enough of em.
after they sit in the water a few days, they start tasting like cantalope to me.

  15. Annie Says:

i’m not sure i’ve ever tasted cantalope… sounds like i’m missing out on more than just raw potato!

  16. kim Says:

Hi I am so happy to find some raw potato eating folks out there! My husband always says it’s bad for me but i always ignored him thinking most raw vegies are good for you, Why not potatoes? I have been eating them since I was a kid, when Mom was cooking I would swipe a few pieces and I still love them especially with a little salt. I just read a great article about their benefits for the release of seratonin in the brain. Its like an antidepressant. You can read that @ radiantdiscovery. com. or read Potatoes not Prozac. I always try natural remedies before drugs. I also use my spuds for eye injuries, I swear by it! It has worked on myself and my kids and my husband just recently used it for a stye…I make like a poultice with some hot tea leaves and place it in a coffee filter then plop right on the infected or scratched eye ( keep it pretty hot but not scorching) and I swear in minutes you will feel relief but after a few days the problem clears up. So the potato is a wonderful SPUD!!!!!!

  17. Annie Says:

thanks kim… i am still amazed at the response this post has got… i still haven’t started eating raw potato tho, but if i ever get a stye…!

  18. Gayle Says:

You must try them Annie … as kids we didn’t get potato chips as a snack (not in the budget), but my Dad would slice raw potatoes and raw onions on a plate with salt, vinegar and pepper and we would all dig in. I still love them and it beats the price of junk food. My husband thinks I’m crazy, though. You should try them this way.

  19. Annie Says:

the peer pressure is starting to get to me. next time i have potatoes in the house, i’ll try some raw, with salt on… yikes!

no doubt i’ll do a new post to say how i got on!

  20. Brian Says:

Well, I just harvested some potatoes and the question around the house is, can we eat them raw ? We all thought that the answer was no but there seems to be a consensus that with a little caution, it’s OK.

However, I’m sure Annie has had “potatoes in the house” since August 30th but I don’t see any resulting post. Did the potatoes do her in ?

  21. York Says:

I brought a 50 lb bag of potatoes about 2 weeks ago. I now have a lot of potatoes, I just eat a little here and there. but I’m been making baked potatoes, french fries and always eat a raw piece when peeling the potatoe. I just love em. and eat a raw potatoe just about everyday. And I’m still craving them. like em cold so I keep em refridgerated.

  22. Ryan Says:

Raw potatoes taste like dirt….. mashed potatoes taste like heaven =)

  23. Anonymous Says:

You are supposed to wash the potatoes first, then they won’t taste like dirt lol

  24. York Says:

Still eating them, and still Love em. washed peeled, soaked and kept in the fridge. “Ummm”, even my little one ask’s for potatoes. He didn’t eat them at first, but after seeing me eat them, he eat’s them, and he like them. I’ve been eating potatos raw fo over 10 years now. I can eat a potato washed, peeled, & slice every day. Morning, Noon, & Night

  25. JACKIE Says:

I went and tried it, cold and with salt, and it was nice. I am on a diet that is rice and potatoe free but I tried it anways. I was craving starch I guess.

  26. Jude Says:

Well, I am so glad I found this discussion! I used to eat raw potatoes with salt when I was a child and my mum always said they would give me worms …. which didn’t seem to bother me then (!) but as I got older the worms thing put me off. But I’ve often wondered if it was really true as I still crave one …. now I think I will probably have one tonight when I get home! If anyone has any more positive information I would love to hear it. Thank you!!!!

  27. York Says:

Just got another 50 lb bag. ate a few slices today.

  28. York Says:

still eating a few slices here and there. Love the crunch when slcied and soaked in cold water.

  29. Minette Says:

Yipee! I am NOT the only one out there that eats raw potatoes. I love them. Just as they are, no salt needed for me (although I will try it some time). I must say that raw potatoes are much sweeter than cooked ones. Not only that, but they are crunchy and absolutely delicious. Not even our local grocer has tried raw potatoes. I’ve been eating them since I was a baby. Oh, and those who say they are bad for you are being silly. I,m still alive and I eat a raw potato (if not more) every day of my life!

  30. AuntieJ Says:

Have any of you eaten raw sweet taters? I’ve always nibbled a slice or two of raw potatoes while prepping dinner, now I’m mostly raw vegan (lost 200 lbs, turned 40, feel younger than I EVER have my entire adult life, wooohooooo!) and just googling ideas to add more variety to my plate. I’ve been craving root veggies lately!

  31. Kiree Says:

I was looking for the calorie content of a raw potatoes and stumbled here. I just ate a raw potato salad. (Julienne Russet potatoes w/one of those Japanese Mandolin Slicers. Some carrots can be added also. Rinse w/cold water to remove starch. Keep overnight in water, refrigerate. Drain water. Top w/salad dressing/sliced cucumbers, etc.) I’m guessing it doesn’t have very many calories since rinsing them in water removes the starch! =)

  32. Anne Says:

Just spoke with Jack LaLanne who is still going strong at 93 yrs.. He said raw potatoes are delicious when juiced and that you get a lot more vitamins out of them since they are not cooked out. I’ve been juicing yams which indeed are delicious, now I’ll try regular potatoes.

  33. Cesha Mazurski Says:

Since 2005 I have been looking around to see if there was anyone out there who enjoys raw potatos… Me thinking I must be missing some kind of nutrient or im just completly crazy… See the weird thing is I only crave them during pregnancy after having the baby I have no need for raw potatos… I peel them rince in cold water and add some salt and I can eat a lot of potatos in a week. Doesn’t matter the kind but prefer Red…. Glad to know there not bad for you although its hard to think a potato could be bad! Just thought I would join the raw potato eaters of the world…

  34. Science Chris Says:

Hi, im doing a Vocational Science cource at College at the moment and i am testing the different methords of cooking potatos. First i am going to see how much Vitamin C is in Potatos. Any Ideas that i could try? W/B

  35. Praisehim Says:

I have loved raw Potato’s for as long as i can remember…My husband thinks i am weird i crave a raw potato every night and love the taste.. Is this normal? Or am i lacking a Vitamin or something??

  36. tommacat Says:

I also like raw potatoes, theres just something bout them mmmmmmm!!!!

  37. Cathie Says:

This is a very interesting thread. Potatoes have lots of phytochemicals in them: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/10/071006085656.htm
“The team’s analysis of Red and Norkotah potatoes, for example, revealed that the spuds’ total dietary-phenolics content rivaled that of broccoli, spinach and brussel sprouts. These phenols included the flavonoids subgroup, which may play a role in helping diminish cardiovascular disease, respiratory problems and certain cancers, notes Navarre, at the ARS Vegetable and Forage Crops Research Unit in Prosser, Wash.”
Here’s another in interesting item from:
    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/06/070625080937.htm
“Spanish researchers found that growing pigs fed large quantities of raw potato starch (RPS) had a healthier bowel. Not a surprise, but they also found that RPS pigs had decreased levels of white blood cells, such as leucocytes and lymphocytes in their blood. White blood cells are produced as a result of inflammation or disease, generally when the body is challenged.”

  38. Cathie Says:

PS I found some really interesting info about raw potato remedies at http://vanscott.wordpress.com/2007/04/19/zentraveler-eats-raw-potatoes-to-alkaline-his-body/

  39. York Says:

Umm, Love those raw, rinsed, cold potato’s. Just mouth watering. Right now I have a bag of the large yellow potato, but I like the russet better.

  40. Narelle Says:

I just took my 8 month old baby to the emergency. I was cooking dinner and she had a sclice of raw potato that she was playing with and sucking on. Next minute I looked down and around her mouth, cheeks and neck had turned bright red. I knew right away it was an allergic reaction. I would not have thought this would have happened. So I came home and googled and this sight came up. She is fine now fortunately it didin’t turn into an anophalatic(spell check) shock. But I am going to try some raw potato with salt.

  41. Kimber Says:

I have loved raw potatoes since I was a little kid. Now I’m 35 and still the same. I have a new dog and she LOVE LOVE LOVEs some raw taters too.

  42. Tanya Says:

I have been eating raw potatoes since I was a kid, my uncle use to make them in a salad, with salt, pepper, onions, garlic, cucumber, and vinegar. I am the only person I know that eats raw potatoes! I was shocked to see that my uncle, Lord Bless the dead, and I are not the only raw potato lovers out there! I crave them at nite, its a nice snack for me, well I’m glad to know that they are healthy! That could be partly why I have been so healthy in all of my 28 years! If my uncle hadn’t had an accident he’d still be here healthy as ever to ! Long live the Raw Potato Lovers! Hey we should start a club or group. lol

  43. Lesa Says:

I’ve also been eating raw potatoes for 40+ years. I eat at least one a day. However, sometimes I crave them so badly I feel as if by body is telling me I’m missing a certain vitamin or something. My favorite raw potatoe is the red-skin, with just a touch of lite-salt. My husband thinks I’m disgusting, but he’s gotten used to it. :)

  44. lisa w Says:

I have eaten raw potatoes, since i was 6, am now 28. I don’t know any one else who enjoys them, they are defo missing out!!!!!

  45. Aunt Shoes Says:

Raw potatoes contain resistant starch (RS2). This starch makes it to the colon where it ferments and makes some wonderful fatty acids. Do a little research on RS2; it’s amazing stuff.

  46. Amber T Says:

Question: I have eaten raw potatoes since a kid and I’m only 21 now. I was trying to figure out if raw potatoes do give you worms – and found this website. My question is, do you know if there’s a difference between eating the skins and the actual vegetable? I love the skins, that’s my favorite part (all the flavor is there). When I was younger and ate them all the time I started to have what looked like giant ring-worm on my ankles/lower calves, so I stopped eating them and it eventually went away. Recently I started eating them whenever I cook with potatoes – just a little here and there and on my ankles I’m starting to see little raised circular bumps (maybe the size of a nickel). Has anyone had similiar experiences? or could it be the skin of potatoes that causes worms and not so much the core of it? Any information you want to offer would be much appreciated :)

  47. Amber T Says:

Also, Annie, I really love locally grown food. If everyone chose to do something a little more “green” it would have a great effect on the earth. I love CSAs – the fresh vegetables are way better than anything you could buy from a store and you get a nice variety while helping out a local farmer. I never would’ve discovered the wonderful world of Chard if it hadn’t been for my CSA.

  48. LIZ Says:

Oh my! I also crave raw potatoes. My mouth will water for them. However, I cut them in thin chip slices & put them in a deep bowl & cover them with white vinegar & a dash of pepper! I then eat them saturated with the vinegar & add salt to each piece as I eat them. I am sure it is very unhealthy, I drink the leftover salted vinegar. Now 41, I have ate this since I was a child! Yum!

  49. Julie Says:

I’ve eaten raw potatoes for over 40 years. I was told today that I shouldn’t eat them as it will kill me. Must be a very slow acting poison. Like others, I was also told that it would give me worms, but I haven’t had them, either.
Whenever I’m chopping them, it’s one piece for me and one for the pan. I don’t take them with anything, though I might try salt. I love them, but I didn’t realise that so many other people ate them as well.

  50. Neal Says:

I’ve eaten them every night before I go to bed. My wife thought it was funny and a little annoying from all the noise. I thought maybe I was missing some nutrients or something the way I’ve always craved them. What ever it is I just had some while I was reading this and they were good.

  51. sian Says:

hi guys i was wondering if anyone know the benifits of eating raw potatoe, as i just started eating it.

  52. vexxa Says:

I have craved raw potatoes on and off for years. Just recently I’ve been craving them daily. I have my boyfriend addicted to them now too. Is there something in them that the body is lacking which causes these cravings???

  53. libby Says:

annie!!!! cant believe so many people read your blog, noone reads mine!!!! you’re famous!!!!!! Lib

  54. Cesha Says:

Still going strong on the raw potatoes, and now that I have moved I have a new doctor so by curiosity I asked him why I craved such a thing and he said (first doc to say something) I’m actually craving dirt hmm I explained I peeled and rinsed and he said that doesn’t make a difference… Its called Pica and its due to my lack of iron and since i can’t take as much supplements when pregnant that is why i have the urge.. and that is why it goes away when i’m done having the baby because i’m back on my supplements… I would of rather thought I was weird and enjoyed a yummy potato. Thought i would share my knowledge given to me in case someone else had the same thing…

  55. Julie Says:

It is unlikely that liking raw potatoes is linked to low iron. I donate blood regularly, and so am checked for haemoglobin levels three times a year. I’m definately not low on iron, but I still like potatoes. I think that your doctor doesn’t approve of your cravings, so therefore accuses you of eating dirt!

  56. Binky Says:

It blows me away to see all these responses ~ I, too, thought I was just weird. The dirt concept is interesting, when my Mom was young, she would eat dried up pieces of mud. She said it was loaded with nutrients. I never tried it though I believe that it’s scientifically proven to be true. My Mom-in-law said my craving comes from a craving for the starch which converts to sugar (energy). Potatoes contain special enzymes (or our mouths contain the enzymes) that start to break down immediately in the mouth converting the starch to sugar right away. It makes sense ’cause the craving is so quickly satisfied. Anyway, I’ll continue to eat my potatoes & maybe feel a little less weird. Regards. :)

  57. Sue Says:

I am 57 and have eaten raw potatoes for as long as I remember. My mother ate them and so it has always seemed quite normal in our family. I don’t crave them, just enjoy them when preparing some for a meal.
My dog always rushes to the kitchen when he hears me peeling potatoes. He taps my leg until I drop him a few slices. We also enjoy raw cauliflower stalk – lovely fresh peppery taste.

  58. York Says:

You are absolutely right Cesha, there is definitely a link with PICA and raw potato cravings.

Thank you for the information. After I found your post I did some research on PICA and it is related to low iron. And…

I recently found out that I have iron deficiency anemia, the iron pills are not working after 1 month, so I have to get an IV infusion once a week for 6 weeks 3-6 hours each Friday. Iron deficiency acne may cause PICA, unnatural craving of wanting to eat ice chips, raw potatoes, clay, dirt, etc. It is known that that the starch in raw potatoes is converted to sugar in the body. glucose, and I assume that it gives us energy, My energy should go up after the infusion, even though I always say I don’t feel tired. I guess my body is just so use to it. So I believe this is why I love these raw potatoes so much. Anxious to see that once I complete the infusions if I will continue the craving or stop eating raw potatoes. I have been eating raw potatoes for over 15 years now. I have very low levels of Iron so it makes sense that my body would want to eat something that is going to give me the much needed energy. Some with low iron eat lots of ice. Ice by the bag fulls. For me, it’s potatoes by the bag full.

And No, i’m not expecting. Tube’s tide. It is Iron deficiency anemia.

  59. York Says:

And about the dirt thing. I have not eaten dirt, not as an adult any way. I remember making mud pies as a child and eating mud. I loved it. However. I enjoy the smell of dirt after the rain and when gardening. But for some reason I do associate the potato with dirt, and when peeling the potato it almost smells like dirt after the rain. I also rinse the potato well with cold water and let them soak in chunks in the fridge Nice and watery. I wonder also if it is the water that were craving? Like for those chewing the ice chips. As I always drink a cup of cold water after eating my raw potatoes. After they soak for a few hours they are nice and watery.

  60. Carrie Says:

I had some blood work done and found that I was anemic and now I know why I’ve been craving potatoes! I eat them every day – sometimes several times a day. I also crave them. It’s amaziing how our bodies tell us what we need. I buy the organic kind, non GMO (genetically modified organism) – it’s best to avoid those. I think it’s great that so many people love raw potatoes! Bon Apetit!

  61. Mike The Tiger Says:

I had a friend back in school who had a disease, muscular disorder of some type. He wasn’t expected to live too far beyond twenty with the particular disorder. One of his doctors had prescribed him to eat raw potatoes. Back then I thought this was odd, yet significant, for I too have always had a craving for raw potatoes. He lived to close to 40. I now try to eat several things regularly. I call it my ‘foods of the earth diet’. I buy a bag of fresh, smooth, red potatoes, russets. I will pull one out, wash it thoroughly with high pressure spray from my water hose, leaving the skin on, salt it nicely with sea salt, and eat it whole. My body just craves this to no end. I will eat 2 or 3 per day. Another food in my ‘FOTE’ diet consists of a can of mixed nuts. A can will last me 4 or 5 days. No one can tell me that thus far, between the raw potatoes from the ground, the sea salt, and the wide variety of nuts, that I am not getting an amazing variety of vitamins and minerals for my cellular health and growth. Now figure in bananas and easy cooked spinach, containing onion, garlic, and a good shot of Trappy’s hot sauce, a spoon of butter, and a sprinkle of sugar. This is the nucleus of my diet. But there is more. I eat salmon oil capsules, 1 calcium suppliment, 4 flintstone vitamins, 4 Acici tabs daily, washing them down with V-8 juice or Natural Light beer. Of course I drink milk, orange juice, tea, coffee, almost anything that I can get my hands on. But I always ask myself, “Is it healty?” and I watch how much I take in. I take in a lot. Friends ask me what I am high on, and I might say, “Oh, just a couple of Red Bulls”. I don’t mean to sound sacreligious or anything, but I feel like God! I am fixing to go make me a mayonaise sandwich and a shot of milk and listen to a little brain sync before I go flying in my dreams. I am a gifted artist, portrait painter, and a musician, play lead guitar and sing lead in a band. I make a living doing both of these. I am 56 but feel like I am 25. I don’t wear glasses nor contacts, I have all of my teeth. And, I am married to a woman 20 years younger than me. I think that it is great being Mikey, I will eat anything including raw potatoes. There are benefits and properties there that we don’t fully realise. For a couple of years I ate the peelings of a big thick orange every day and gave the sweet middle part to the nearest person. I did this to saturate my cells with interfuron. I could go on and on but I will close by saying, “If you don’t give your body the very special substances that it needs to maintain itself, WHO WILL?” If you deprive it, thinking, “Yukk”, you will go down like a dog, ha ha!” I’m just trying to help you get better. Now, I’m going to get my snack and my flintstones. Adious Amegos!

I was almost embarrassed to even Google “eating raw potatoes with salt” but I finally did it anyway. There you all were, writing exactly what I wanted to hear. I won’t get worms, I won’t die, etc. I have eaten raw potatoes since I was very small, starting when my mother was peeling them for dinner. Now I am 67 and still eat raw potatoes. I peel them, wash them in cold water, slice them up thinly and then sprinkle a little salt on each slice. Oh my goodness, they are SO good! My husband laughed and laughed at me after we married 11 yrs. ago when he first saw me eating raw potatoes. Now he doesn’t even flinch when I hurry to the kitchen for one. Thank goodness I’m not the only one!

  65. Chrissie Says:

I have been told by a practioner of Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture that I should start each day by eating a small peeled raw potato (chewed to a pulp) followed by some hot water. After my initial reaction of distate and disbelief, I decided to find out more and came across this blog. Although I’m still not sure whether I will be able to do this on a regular basis, I’m so pleased to have found such reassuring information and can now make an informed decision. I was told that one small raw potato contains all the nutrients and minerals our body needs to maintain good health and judging by all the previous comments, that seems to be the case.

  66. Elizabeth Says:

I have been eating raw potatoes since I was pregnant with my second child 7 yrs ago, I can’t help it, I’ve tried to stop but my body must need something from them that I’m lacking in vitamin wise. I really enjoy the taste. I only eat one kind of potato and that is the red rooster variety, really crunchy and juicy, I crave this more than chocolate which is probably a good thing I hope. I eat about 3 a day sometimes more peeled thickly and rinsed well avoiding any green parts which you hardly see in the rooster potato.

  67. Julian Says:

I recently discovered that I could munch my way thru raw parsnips… delicious with a bit or marmite on (English Yeast Extract, high in B12). So then I thought, OK I’m gonna eat raw cauliflower and it was delicious… the best bit was the stalk (you can peel the skin of the stalk and the inner part is really sweet), I also enjoyed the baby leaves closest to the white head. Then I went on to eat raw swede. I thought this might be pushing it too far but no they are delicious… with swede I peel of the skin. Then I found that I could munch my way thru brussels sprouts by the dozen… they are gorgeous, much nicer than cooked. You might think that I became full of gas but if you have been fasting and keeping your colon cleaned (enemas) and you just eat between 1/2 to one kilo (1 to 2 pounds) of food a day it is enough… this is the way that Methusulah lived (See Essenes Gospel of Peace). Well now I learn from reading the lovely posts above that I can eat raw potatoe… how splendid! I will try with sea salt and perhaps lemon… Vinegar is apparently not a good choice because it is a product of decay. I also found out that raw Eggplants (aubourgines) can be eaten. Well I am redicovering a healthier life now at 42 and loving all the foods local to my country at this time of the year. Fantastic!
